Our School Day

Each day is different at the New School but there are structures and routines, which can give you an insight into what your child would experience on a daily basis.

7.30 - 8.30am

Early Birds Club

Children can arrive at school from 8.30 am. Children are taken directly into class. During this time teachers will hear children read until registration.

Registration and greeting.

Morning lessons.

This is when teachers usually work with the children on literacy and numeracy tasks. However, these skills are often developed through games and also linked to the termly topic such as Journeys, Nursery Rhymes and Ancient Egyptians.

Assembly for the whole school.

Morning break.

Children are encouraged to bring a healthy snack to school for this break. We play outside all year round and there is plenty of good play equipment in school for their use including skipping ropes, tricycles, giant chalks, and use of our apparatus and summer house.

12 noon

Hot meals are served in our hall. Hot meals are provided by Sodexo. These are healthy, balanced meals with a vegetarian option. After lunch, children are encouraged outside again for some fresh air and games.

Afternoon lessons.

The afternoon session allows time for the more creative aspects of the curriculum, such as art, French, music and PE.

Afternoon break.

Last play of the day and a final chance to let off steam before the final hour and home.

Collection time.

All children are collected from the playground where there is a 'handing over' time from teacher to parent.

3.30 - 5.30pm

If parents are delayed, children are able to join the late room service. Please note that After School Club is a chargeable service available for parents who are unable to collect their children until later in the afternoon.

We are delighted to offer a bus service to and from Exeter School and The New School from September 2021. Please read and complete the attached form if you are interested.
